These repercussions extend through ecosystems, disrupting the delicate equilibrium of life and impacting our well-being. These ecosystems are the foundation of our environmental stability and upon which agricultural productivity rest.

A troubling year of drought, floods, and soaring inflation
Grass-seed consumption during the past year has been slower than during the two previous years when COVID-19 forced people to stay at home and devote more time to their gardens. Now that we’re back to normality, seed consumption has returned to typical levels.
Inevitably, there are other issues to worry about. Inflation, which has fallen from its highest levels, continues to be a concern, driven primarily by rising gas, electricity, and overall consumer prices. Inflation is still far higher than people are used to, which is why it continues to dampen consumer spending and reduce trade activity.
As always, the weather plays its part in the seed industry. Last year we enjoyed an exceptional harvest with abundant yields and excellent dry storage conditions. Not so for the 2023 seed production year, which offers a stark contrast to the success of the previous year.

Grasses are amazing crops! They are perennial plants, and when they stand in the field, they absorb CO2 from the air, which is converted and used to form leaves and roots. Over time, they can store a lot of carbon in the soil. They are also some of the best crops for utilizing nitrogen, so their impact on the environment and climate is really minimal. Wish we all could thrive on grass. We can't... yet!

The needle in the DNA-stack
No Need to Look for the Needle in the DNA-stack When You Can Create One Yourself. Many professionals in plant business are familiar with the recent introduction of a technology, called “genome editing”, which has the potential to change breeding dramatically. The most commonly used genome editor is the Crispr/CAS system. Crispr/CAS can make a mutation at specific positions in any plants’ DNA, which may result in a better trait. In nature, mutations are induced all the time. Over thousands of years this is what has created the variation upon which we build all new varieties today. But not all mutations are easily detected
