Red clover is an important component in clover-grass mixtures. It increases the protein content of your feed and fixes nitrogen. Red clover has a deep roots which makes it drought tolerant. It thrives well in a wide range of soils except very light, acidic or water-logged ones. In most countries with a temperate climate, red clover is widely cultivated and tolerates low temperatures during winter. Persistency tend to be slightly better in diploid varieties whereas forage yield is slightly lower than tetraploid varieties. Disease resistance is almost the same as new varieties has been improved through breeding. With a much better seed yield diploid are usually more attractive and easy to get hold of.
