Nature, biodiversity and pollution

Nature, biodiversity and pollution are closely interconnected. Healthy ecosystems, clean water and fertile soil are essential for both nature and stable seed production. We therefore work with solutions that reduce pressure on soil and water while supporting biodiversity and resilient ecosystems.

Healthy Soil and Clean Water

Water and soil are under pressure from increasing pollution, which affects oxygen levels in aquatic environments and soil health. Our business depends on healthy ecosystems, and we therefore recognise both our responsibility and the opportunities that come with addressing these challenges.

We recognise that plant protection products are used both in seed production and by end-users. At the same time, we are working to reduce their use through precision technology and crop selection. Our crops can increase nitrogen uptake in the soil and thereby reduce nutrient leaching and water pollution.

Our efforts are centered around:

  • Efficient use of plant protection products through precision technology and digital tools
  • Crops that reduce nutrient leaching and support healthy soils.
  • Plant breeding that strengthens natural resilience to pests and diseases

Biodiversity and Resilient Ecosystems

Biodiversity encompasses more than the number of species in an area. Well-functioning ecosystems form the foundation of environmental stability and the agricultural productivity on which we depend. Our seed production depends on healthy ecosystems, while our value chain and the use of our seeds can contribute positively to nature. Through our products, we contribute to solutions that support nature restoration, enhance biodiversity and create value for our customers and the ecosystems they are part of.

Our efforts are centered around:

  • Grassland legumes such as clover and alfalfa that support pollinating insects
  • Multi-species seed mixtures that create habitats for insects and strengthen soil microbiomes
  • Solutions for nature restoration and healthier ecosystems in both agriculture and green spaces.

Healthy ecosystems form the foundation of environmental stability and the agricultural productivity on which we depend.

Seeds as Part of the Solution

Climate change and pollution are among the most significant threats to biodiversity and ecosystems. Efforts to ensure clean water, healthy soil and biodiversity are therefore closely linked.

Through plant breeding, we develop solutions that address several challenges at the same time. Perennial grasses and legumes can help improve soil health, reduce erosion and support biodiversity. We also work with multi-species mixtures and nature restoration solutions that contribute to more resilient ecosystems.

As a seed company, we view nature, biodiversity and pollution as interconnected topics that require a holistic approach to both production and environmental stewardship.
