AgritaiN®

AgritaiN® is a natural, environmentally friendly forage solution to mitigate nitrogen leaching from the urine patch – up to 89% depending on the sward blend

Benefits of AgritaiN®

Agronomic benefits

  • Very similar annual dry matter quantity and quality to ryegrass pasture
  • Increases feed quality and/or supply during summer and autumn
  • Improves speed of sward recovery after summer dry
  • Improves cool season activity of pasture base
  • Suitable as a 2-3 year crop option
  • Establishes and competes in perennial ryegrass pastures

Animal performance benefits

  • Positive impact on milk production when grass quality drops in summer
  • Elevated mineral content (Zn, Cu, Se, Mg, Ca, K)
  • Has the potential to reduce facial eczema spore levels
  • Reduces dag production in sheep
  • Liveweight gain benefits with higher dressing out percentage in lambs and cattle

AgritaiN® - the natural forage solution that help mitigate nitrate leaching

AgritaiN® combines four modes of action that work together to significantly reduce nitrate leaching from the urine patch up to 89% depending on sward blend.

AgritaiN® environmental plantain from DLF is the only plantain proven to significantly reduce nitrate leaching from the urine patch whilst also providing high quality forage and thereby increasing the milk and meat production. AgritaiN® can be utilised in a wide range of forage systems but is particularly effective under grazing management.

Agriculture, and dairying in particular, has been identified as one of the key contributors to increased nitrate in rural waterways. AgritaiN® can reduce the nitrate leaching significantly.

Up to 89% reduction in nitrate leaching with AgritaiN®

Accurate application of nitrogen fertiliser and responsible spreading of effluent assist in reducing the amount of nitrate entering groundwater, but by far the majority of nitrate leaching comes from the urine patch.

To date, controlling the nitrate in the urine patch has been difficult and reducing the nitrogen fertiliser application rate has been seen as the most practical solution. Better nitrogen management is the key to a successful and more sustainable forage production. By adding AgritaiN® to your sward mixture you will get a cost-effective, natural, and environmentally friendly forage solution to reduce on-farm nitrogen emissions. AgritaiN® not only decreases nitrate leaching it also provides a high quality, productive forage plantain.

Restrict: The presence of AgritaiN® plants in the soil reduces nitrate leaching by restricting the amount of leachable nitrogen in the soil.

Dilute: AgritaiN®  environmental plantain increases the volume of urine animals produce, which means the nitrogen being excreted is in a more dilute form, resulting in a reduced nitrogen load in the urine patch.

Reduce: AgritaiN® reduces the amount of dietary nitrogen which is excreted in urine, compared with ryegrass. This reduces the amount of nitrogen released into the soil via the urine patch.

Delay: In urine patches from animals grazing AgritaiN®, the conversion from ammonium to nitrate is delayed. Slower conversion allows plants a greater opportunity to uptake nitrogen, significantly reducing the potential for leaching.

The power of 4: Used all together, studies show that when urine from AgritaiN® fed cows are added to an AgritaiN® clower-grass sward you get up to 89% less leaching compred to a ryegrass sward.
