Hybrid ryegrass 4n
Hybrid ryegrass is a cross between perennial and Italian ryegrass. It combines the benefits of the two: yield, quality and persistence. Hybrid ryegrass has good drought tolerance and spring growth is similar to early perennial ryegrasses. Heading is more like intermediate perennials. This gives a great deal of flexibility in the spring and high quality forage. Tetraploids varieties do not tiller as aggressively as diploid varieties which form naturally sparser stand and less ground coverage. The sparse stand also make tetraploid more suitable for mixtures with clovers, since it do not crowd out its companion. Stands are a bit more open which make them more suitable for cutting than heavy grazing.
