Superior Adaptability & Growth Performance
PR55V48 is an exceptionally winter-hardy alfalfa variety with very late bud dormancy, making it ideal for regions with long growing seasons. Its late dormancy allows for extended cutting periods, even into late autumn, without compromising plant health. This variety recovers quickly after harvest, ensuring consistent growth and high biomass production. It thrives in various soil conditions, including less well-drained soils, making it a versatile and resilient option for farmers seeking reliability and adaptability.
High Yield & Excellent Forage Quality
With proper management, PR55V48 can be harvested up to six times per year, delivering outstanding forage yield and quality. The variety is naturally enriched with Rhizobium bacteria, promoting healthy root development and vigorous plant growth. Its high protein content and excellent digestibility make it a top choice for livestock nutrition, ensuring better milk and meat production. Additionally, its strong disease resistance against Verticillium, Fusarium, Anthracnose, Phytophthora, and nematodes enhances crop longevity and reduces the need for chemical treatments.
Efficient Cultivation & Harvesting
PR55V48 is easy to establish and requires a 4–5 year crop rotation for optimal productivity. It should be sown between late March and early August, at a seeding rate of 25 kg/ha and a depth of 1–2 cm in finely crumbled soil. The soil pH should be maintained between 6.0 and 7.0 to ensure proper nutrient uptake. Optimal cutting height is 8–10 cm, and a 35–45% dry matter content is recommended for best forage quality. With up to four cuts per year in the second to fourth years, PR55V48 provides consistent, high-quality forage, ensuring a profitable and sustainable farming operation.
