Fighting the turfgrass pathogens fuelled by climate change
Climate change brings winners and losers. Among the winners are the fungal pathogens that cause turfgrass diseases. They thrive in our warmer, wetter climate. But no one’s giving up. We’re working to find more resistant varieties that keep disease at bay. This is the story of the northward march of the pathogens and the turfgrass screening programme that’s holding them back.

Research comes to the rescue of drought-stressed golf fairways
As droughts tighten across Europe, the problem of brown, poorly playable golf-course fairways increases. Independent Scandinavian research may be able to help. A study of cool-season grasses aims to help golf-course managers make informed, science-based turfgrass choices. In the study, preliminary results show that our 4turf® grasses performed extremely well. These climate-smart turfgrasses improve playability, stay greener for longer, and reduce the need for irrigation and maintenance.

Few people have had as big an impact on turfgrass development as Christophe Galbrun, DLF breeder. We asked him about his life’s work and his motivations for tackling the tricky techniques that turned his intuitions for the drought-resistant potential of tetraploid grasses into a worldwide turfgrass phenomenon.
