Five new turfgrass varieties from DLF
Everyone wants better turf performance – turfgrass that’s more durable and more appealing. So that’s what we’ve done with our latest release of five new turfgrass varieties. These five varieties set new benchmarks in establishment, wear tolerance, aesthetics, and disease resistance. They will appeal to a wide range of turf managers working across stadiums, public parks, landscaping, and private lawns.
Following years of genetic refinement, rigorous official trials, and precision seed multiplication, these are the turf varieties that made the cut. We picked them from a pool of nearly 30 candidates to deliver real-world performance. They are the best of the best from our cutting-edge breeding programme.
A portfolio built for performance
From fast-germinating ryegrasses that sustain high-traffic recreation areas to fine-leaved fescues of beautiful lawns, these new varieties reflect the latest in turfgrass innovation:
- LAUTREC – A diploid perennial ryegrass recommended for France and the UK. LAUTREC stands out with fast establishment and solid disease resistance. It's a versatile, all-round performer suited for recreation and landscaping professionals who demand reliability and visual appeal.
- MOLEKO – Also recommended for France, MOLEKO is another well-balanced perennial ryegrass. Together with LAUTREC, it forms a strong foundation for lawns and recreation areas, offering good disease tolerance and fine leaf quality. MOLEKO ensures visual consistency and durability in multi-use turf surfaces.
- MELISANDRA – Recommended for France and the UK, MELISANDRA offers one of the fastest establishment rates among current varieties – a key factor in turf renovation projects or early-season recovery. Rapid establishment can minimise the need for herbicides and reduce weed pressure, making it a smart choice for sustainable turf management.
- COPTIC – A slender creeping red fescue showing exceptional adaptation in northern Europe. Recommended for the UK, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland, and potentially the Netherlands, COPTIC leads the Scandinavian turf lists for density and fineness. Its summer greenness and compact growth habit make it ideal for low-input turf and ornamental uses.
- EPOS – A tall fescue recommended for France and Germany, EPOS is bred as an improvement over ARMANI – and it clearly delivers. Topping the French list for lawn use, it offers fine leaf texture and visual appeal rarely seen in tall fescues. With improved disease tolerance and year-round performance, EPOS is ideal for landscape professionals seeking a robust and elegant solution.

These new turf varieties are the result of years of cross-disciplinary collaboration at DLF – from the early work of R&D breeders, through product management selection and official testing, to seed multiplication and logistics. The result is a dependable, top-performing portfolio for the next generation of turf installations.
“Every variety released is a direct answer to the needs of professional users,” says Henrik Lehmann Holm, International Product Manager from DLF. “Speed of establishment, durability under wear, aesthetics, and adaptability are not just checkboxes – they are central design parameters in our breeding programmes.”
